Proper hydration is an important aspect of golf fitness. Without proper hydration on the golf course, it will be nearly impossible to play the game at your highest level. Being properly hydrated will not only improve you physically but mentally as well. Water intake on the golf course will improve brain performance which will have a definite role in your ability to complete repetitive tasks such as swinging a golf club or putting.
To ensure that the body is properly hydrated, drink at least 1/2 of your body weight in ounces per day. In other words, if you weigh 220 pounds, proper hydration means that your body needs at least 110 ounces of water per day.
Try to avoid sugary drinks, even sports drinks while playing a round of golf. Those drinks can have the opposite effect by causing dehydration because the body will need to expend its water reserves in order to dilute the sugar drinks before the water can be absorbed by the body.
Alcohol, although a very common part of playing golf, causes the body to become dehydrated while playing golf in addition to the other side effects that come with drinking alcohol. Avoid alcohol when you want to play your best golf.
The best times to drink water is in the morning to start of the hydration process and then time the consumption of water throughout the day to maintain a high level of hydration.
