A Solid Distance Wedge Swing

Playing well from within 100 yards of the green is dependent on a reliable distance wedge swing. The distance wedge swing is slightly different from the full iron swing and is designed for accuracy and control.

Unlike a normal iron swing where the hips rotate through the swing followed by upper body, arms and club, the distance wedge swing is about controlling the swing with the upper body only.

The distance wedge swing is also known as a chest swing.

To execute the wedge swing, keep the lower body quiet and move the club with the chest and arms. The club should always stay in front of the chest.

Rotate away from the ball with a smooth take away keeping the club out in front. Use the chest to rotate the club in the backswing.

On the downswing, again keep the lower body still and rotate back through with the chest. Again, keep the club in the middle of the chest.

As you can see the entire shot is controlled by the rotating of the chest. This method works well because it is easy to make consistent ball contact and dial in distance by controlling how far the chest rotates back and through.
