Hitting the golf ball straight is a matter of setup not manipulation. Setup by aligning the body parallel to the target and with the clubface square or pointed directly at the target.
The body (feet, legs, arms and shoulders) should all be in-line and pointing along the same path. If you were to draw two lines from the target and the ball it should resemble a railroad track. That is smaller at the target and gradually widening at the ball.
Position the body along the inside of that line and the club along the outside line. Setting up as such represents a square position to hit the ball straight.
The swing itself should be along the body line. That means that the swing path should not be too inside the line and not outside of the line. Either of which will affect the direction the ball will travel and will prevent a straight ball flight.
